Handmade Hoops by Peachysteve
Step Throughs
Taken from Chapter 3 of
"Hooping"
An Instructional DVD by Peachysteve
In the step through the hoop stays in the same line and you move from one side of it to the other by going through the hoop.
It will help if you have worked isolations in both hands.
This movement incorporates the isolation roll and can be broken down into simple steps.
I will start by showing the steps clearly and then show the move again in a more fluid form.
I'm starting with forward circles in a hand roll position where the roll is isolated. I bring the hoop in front of me, close to the ground, so I can step into it.
I step out through the hoop and put my foot down.
I now make an isolation roll with my right hand.
As I catch up the hoop I bring my left arm behind me and grip the hoop with my palm facing in and my hand pointing down.
I let go with my right hand and make an isolation roll with my left hand.
I step my left leg through the hoop and the hoop is now on my left hand side. |
You can go through the exact same process moving from your left to right.
Put the hoop in position
Step through
Isolation roll
Take the hoop in your other hand
Isolation roll
Step through
Repeat as many times as needs be to be clear about the mechanics of the movement.
Then you can work toward smoothing it out.
Bring the hoop forward and start your step through.
As you step make your isolation roll.
Take hold at the back and go straight into your isolation roll. Keep the hoop circling smoothly forward.
As you roll, step out through the hoop.
Circle the hoop around to bring it back into postion.
Step your left leg through as you roll the hoop forward.
Take the hoop with your right hand behind you.
Step your right leg through as you roll the hoop forward.
Circle the hoop around to bring it back into postion and you can start again. |
As the hoop I use is quite big I can step through the hoop without having to duck my head.
The smaller the hoop you use the more your body will need to bend to get you through.
You can also do this same movement with reverse circles.
