Handmade Hoops by Peachysteve
Front Hand Pass
Taken from Chapter 3 of
"Hooping"
An Instructional DVD by Peachysteve
When working with the hoop in the vertical plane you have two other planes to consider.
Front and Side
As the hoop prefers to stay in the same plane,
a 90 degree turn of your body will take you from one plane to the other.
The moves I've shown so far are in the side plane.
The front plane has a different feel so I'll cover it again from this aspect.
Starting with Front facing hand rolls.
Hold the hoop in fron of you, palm upward. Turn the hoop across your face (inward circle)
Once your hand has turned so your palm is facing downward Release your grip and roll the hoop over the back of your hand.
Keep the hoop forward of your thumb. Remember to offer the fleshy part of your hand to the hoop at its peak.
Make a circle with your hand to keep the momentum going.
Here you can see the move run. |
It's best to learn this move with both hands in both directions.
Then you can pass the hoop from hand to hand.
Although this is a simple move it's worth looking at how to make it flow smoothly.
Starting with inward circles on my left hand. My right hand is behind the plane of the hoop but moving into position during the first circle
My right hand comes into the plane of the hoop ready for the exchange. My hands are palm to palm and the hoop rolls over the top of them.
The hoop is now on my right hand doing outward circles. My left hand moves out of the plane of the hoop.
My left hand moves out to alow the hoop to circle but then starts to come back into position for the next pass.
My left hand comes into the plane of the hoop ready for the exchange. The hoop passes across the bottom of my hands.
The hoop is now back where it started on my left hand doing inward circles.
Here you can see the move run. |
See how there is a full circle between each hand pass.
Passing from inward circle to outward circle goes across the top of the hands.
Passing from outward circle to inward circle goes across the bottom of the hands.
