Handmade Hoops by Peachysteve
Cross Body Thumb Roll
Taken from Chapter 3 of
"Hooping"
An Instructional DVD by Peachysteve
If you worked on the thumb circles earlier then this move should be pretty straightforward.
If you worked them in both directions on both hands then it will be even easier.
Maybe you've just jumped to this part though so I'll go through it again.
This movement combines the thumb circle with the figure of eight.
This thumb circle seems more difficult as it is across the body but if you made a quarter turn toward the hoop it would be exactly the same.
I'm starting with a forward figure of eight with my right arm. I'm carrying the hoop up and across my body.
When the hoop passes my toes I release my grip and point my thumb through the hoop.
I hold position while the hoop makes a full circle around my thumb. As the hoop rolls between my thumb and index finger I take hold of it again.
Once I have a hold of it I carry it back to the start position.
Here you can see the three circles. The Circle on the right, the two circles on the left. Half a carried circle, a thumb circle, another half a carried circle. |
Here is a closer view of the thumb roll.
I'm starting at the point in the figure of eight where the hoop starts its descent across the body.
As the hoop starts to rise I release my grip but keep my thumb strong and level.
The hoop keeps circling my thumb...
Until it comes back into my fingers and I take hold of it. Now I'm ready to continue the carry back to the start.
Here you can see the move run. |
