Lift Out Thumb Roll
Taken from Chapter 4 of
"Hooping"
An Instructional DVD by Peachysteve
So far I've urged you not to release your grip during the lift out.
If you want to move from a lift out to an overhead hand circle then the horizontal thumb roll is a perfect transition move.
This thumb roll method works from either lift out.
I'm going to illustrate the thumb roll from an arm two lift out.
On this page I'm also going to look at a throw in from overhead hand circles.
This throw in only works from arm two hand circles and I will run these two moves together.
Here you can see these two moves.
I'll start part way in to the arm two lift out. I'm just making the overhead circle.
As the hoop comes over head I release my grip and put my thumb up into the hoop.
The hoop rolls on the thumb for half a turn and then moves into a hand circle.
Make a full hand circle over head.
Watch for the space coming to the front. Get ready to bring arm one up through the space as you bring arm two down.
With palm facing forward, keep moving arm two down and bring arm one up.
Push across to your hip to throw in. |
Now to take a look at some of those points from a different angle.
I'm just making the overhead circle.

Now to take a closer look at the thumb roll transition.
Starting from the overhead circle.
As the hoop comes over head I release my grip and put my thumb up into the hoop.
The hoop rolls on the thumb for half a turn.
Then moves into a hand circle.
Once there you can drop down to the throw in, keep doing hand circles, or go into one of the many other moves that lead from here. |
Remember that you can use the throw in to go from arm two hand circles whenever you want to take the hoop back to the waist.
One more look at this move running from above.
